Welcome to the blog.
I will be publishing a weekly blog on all things that you need to know to start your metal detecting journey .
As a first entry I would like to just explain how I look at detecting and why I do it.
Metal Detecting is unlikely to make you rich ! There are still hoards of Gold out there but they are scarce and those who find them have often spent years researching sites to find likely places to find those hoards.
To me metal detecting is about a walk in the countryside , a little gentle exercise digging a few holes and occasionally finding something really interesting amongst the ring pulls, bottle caps , old gas meters and other trash that your detector will find.
As you progress and maybe upgrade your kit you will dig less trash and find more objects - its a learning curve and thats part of the fun.
If this sounds a bit negative it's not meant to be . The joy of holding a musket ball or coin or artefact that was last handled hundreds ,sometimes a thousand, years ago is incredible The piles of trash you sift through to get there are all worth while and the walk in beautiful farmland with other people is another plus.
So if you are prepared to be patient , spend a reasonable amount of money and would like to discover more about the history of our country come back next week (30th October) to begin your journey by learning about buying a metal detector.
